Worth a look in "Recommended Reading": 2 California grocery stores close when city orders emergency Covid pay hike. Maybe raising the federal minimum wage isn't the best idea.

In less than two months, the US has vaccinated 30% more people than have tested positive for Covid-19 in a year. 90% of long-term care residents and staff have gotten their first shot. Science!

With 52.3 million doses of the vaccines delivered, the roll-out is perfectly in synch with the plan announced in early December. Yes, apparently there was a plan. Yes, apparently it got carried out.

Check out our top story in "Recommended Reading." We know the era of arbitrary lockdowns is over when the New York Times turns against Andrew Cuomo for "scorning expertise."

Both US and world new cases fall to a level not seen since early November, since the beginning of the "dark winter."

We got our first shot yesterday in Dallas, as 1.69 million did nationwide. The only side-effect was uncontrollable joy. Meanwhile, the CDC has updated its vaccination data and definitions for long-term care residents -- and, of course, it's not good. Turns out their data includes not just nursing homes, but assisted-living facilities too. And not just residents, but staff (and there are almost as many staff as there are residents, because of the need for multiple shifts). So it's hardly "mission accomplished," as it seemed from last week's numbers. Combining residents and staff, 66.7% have had the first shot, which is good, but only 11.3% the second, which is bad. Both are far above the total-population, which is good -- but far short of what it seemed, which is bad.

It's unanimous. Check out page 11. All 52 US states and territories are in a two-week new-cases downtrend. Never seen this before. Did lockdowns do it? Nope. Buttoned-up California is in the top five downtrends, but so are wide-open Texas and Florida. Looks like California inflicted a lot of unnecessary harm on itself.

The CDC has stopped reporting the number of vaccinations in long-term care facilities because it's "mission accomplished." We're hearing from clients individual cases where family members are not vaccinated yet, but that will get fixed. Overall, this is a great achievement.

At least by the government numbers we have now administered two doses of the vaccine to more people in long term care facilities than there are people in long term care facilities. Now that's planning!

2.73 million vaccine doses have been administered in US long-term care facilities, where the most vulnerable population lives. There are only 1.4 million LTC residents, so that means virtually any resident who wants the shot has already had two. This was achieved under the Federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program. Anyone who says there was no plan for the vaccines must not be aware of this.
