White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tests positive for Covid. We wish her a speedy recovery. She had been vaccinated (and wore two masks). Look for our video later today about understanding vax efficacy.

As US adult herd immunity approaches the 90% threshold, cases are falling in 44 states, deaths finally falling too, and hospitalizations and (especially) ICU rates are dropping even faster -- even as the prevalence of the Delta variant has reached 100%. We'll have a video tomorrow covering the controversial effectiveness of vaccines in achieving this.

New feature in our vaccine tracker on page 3. Every day we will show the number of booster shots administered, new and cumulative. And speaking of which, in "Recommended Reading," the FDA has now approved the shots for five-year-olds to protect them from a disease they don't get in the first place. (The new oath, apparently, is: First, do no good.) Put it in context with "One Country's Struggle Against the New Segregation" -- a horrifying first person account of how vax passports are working in Lithuania to create a two-track society of the vaxxed and the vaxxed-not.

In "Recommended Reading," important new studies of Covid infections, deaths, hospitalizations and transmissions among the vaccinated. From the Lancet, a UK study shows 25% of vaccinated household members were infected, compared to 38% among unvaccinated, and their symptoms cleared sooner. Here in the US, the CDC has now begun monthly reporting of cases, deaths and hospitalizations by vax status -- at long last. Bottom line, infections are 6 times more likely, and death 12 times more likely, for the unvaccinated. We link to both the over-heated media accounts and the original data.

A New York Times editorial asks: "How Will We Live if Covid Is Here to Stay"? The CDC director answers, calling for police and government workers who refuse vaccinations to be sent for "education and counseling." It's all in "Recommended Reading."

An FDA panel recommends approving the vaccine for 5-year-olds. The CDC declares some patients can get a fourth shot. The Moderna chairman says boosters could be yearly. Is Covid becoming endemic, or is our obsession with it becoming endemic?

Fauci is finished. Never mind funding "gain of function" research at the Wuhan lab. Never mind presiding over ineffective lockdowns that threw the economy into depression. Nope, all that's okay. But now it comes out he has condoned medical experiments on puppies too gruesome for us to detail -- see PETA's take on it in "Recommended Reading." Also in "Recommended Reading" -- here's how Bloomberg covers up for the Chinese regime, concerning its small new Covid lockdowns: "Ejin, a county in China’s Inner Mongolia region, asked its 35,700 residents to stay home from Monday and warned of civil and criminal liabilities should anyone disobey the order."  It's not "asking" if it's an "order," guys.

We're far from declaring a trend-reversal here. But the drop in world daily new cases has, for the moment, stopped and headed back up. We just didn't crack -- haven't yet cracked, we hope -- the seemingly significant 375,000 level on a seven-day average basis.

In "Recommended Reading," the Biden administration has moved to delay the release of the final remaining documents on the John F. Kennedy assassination. Why? What else... ...Covid.
