Interesting study in "Recommended Reading." Turns out that young people who report lingering symptoms of Covid -- so-called "Long Covid" -- are children of parents who report lingering symptoms of Covid -- so-called "Long Covid."  The power of genes, or the power of suggestion?

Who knows what's real anymore. In "Recommended Reading," NPR declares the end of the Monkeypox emergency with as little evidence as it declared its onset. What turned the imaginary tide? Vaccines of course. Complete fantasy structure, beginning, middle and end.

The CDC has announced a major reorganization -- because in the pandemic the agency "did not reliably meet expectations." That's putting it mildly. The "ninth paragraph rule" holds again for the New York Times coverage. Turns out this embarrassing admission is the result of an external study that started in April -- but the study itself has not been published. Something tells us the study doesn't put it so mildly (or it would have been published). See "Recommended Reading."

In "Recommended Reading," Covid breaks out in the tiny Marshall Islands, after almost no cases at all last year. Our famous "ninth paragraph rule" comes through again. "The population is highly vaccinated: 72 percent are fully vaccinated in Majuro, and 61 percent have boosters..."

New evidence is emerging that the White House pressured Twitter to ban Alex Berenson at time when new-president Biden was most aggressively taking credit for the new vaccines -- which Berenson, correctly as it turned out, was not quite as enthusiastic about. See today's "Recommended Reading."

After two and a half years, the "CDC is streamlining its COVID-19 guidance... This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives." In other words, after all this time of disrupting our lives, it turns out they didn't have to?

We've turned the corner on the US's little BA.5 wavelet. Now 34 states are in declining two-week case trajectories, and 39 are in declining test-positivity trajectories.
