As we reported yesterday, the lethality of the new Covid hybrid created in a Boston University lab is basically a media hoax. But the hybridization work did in fact go on -- and it raises questions about whether this kind of work should be permitted anywhere, or at least anywhere but a Level-4 containment lab (or Wuhan, whichever comes first). It's all in "Recommended Reading."

With Xi's grip on power firmer than ever amidst a Chinese property crisis, state control continues to be exhibited through a series of forced quarantines and lockdowns. But they can't get to "Zero Covid," it seems -- though only 7 deaths have been reported in 144 days, and the days-to-double mortalities approaches 1,000.

In Covid news today, of course there's yet another new variant that "scientists worry" and "experts fear" will be the best yet at evading immunizations. And here's a weird one -- how to use social media product reviews to detect who has lost their sense of taste and smell (and therefore is guilty of having Covid without so much as a swab-test). Will the politicization of Covid never end? The White House says the pandemic is "over," yet cites it as the ongoing rationale for forgiving student debt. Now the Treasury is investigating Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, an obvious political rival, for using Covid funds to pay for migrant flights. This and more in "Recommended Reading" today.

Well, the MonkeyPox thing didn't stick. So what's the next song in the pandemic juke-box? Ebola, of course! The CDC is saying we aren't prepared for it! Only one vaccine! On the plus side, and seemingly without irony, the crown of the Statue of Liberty is open to visitors again, first time since the lockdowns. Yes, it's all in "Recommended Reading."

In case you are interested in getting involved, in "Recommended Reading" there is a link to a petition to defund US grants to the Eco-Health Alliance, the middle-man that was the conduit to US funding of gain-of-function research in Wuhan.
