Vaccination has pretty much ground to a halt in the US. 15% of people who got their first shot didn't bother to get a second.

The Monkeypox thing is back in the headlines. "Should we worry?" asks one today in "Recommended Reading." Hey, this is the media. Should you worry? YES! We insist!

In "Recommended Reading," a perfect object lesson in the deceptive journalistic practice of telling a true story by draping it in false context. The true core of the story is that nobody knows how many Covid infections there are any more thanks to the prevalence of in-home testing, the results of which go unreported. But then there are all the first-person anecdotes about the dread and fear of a dimensionless new wave. The article even states that, tests or no tests, we know the extent of the wave by measuring hospitalizations and fatalities -- which remain low. But no. More heart-breaking anecdotes about people who have nothing better to do than share their fears with reporters from the Washington Post (plural -- it took three to write this masterpiece).

In "Recommended Reading," Bloomberg has found a new form of intersectionalism: climate change is going to lead to more pandemics! Is that because warmer weather in Wuhan makes labs more insecure?

In "Recommended Reading," with a strange one-week delay after attaining the 1 million death milestone in the US, the hard-Left press is running blame-game stories (and guess whom they blame). Britain’s The Guardian runs with the tired old trope that Republicans are less vaccinated (completely ignoring that African-Americans are too). Oh, and did we mention that the US has outperformed Britain in both infections and fatalities? Well, never mind. The New York Times, at least, offers jazzy animated information graphics along with its healthy helping of blame.

In "Recommended Reading," a scandalous exposure of the "plot" to keep meat-packing plants operating during the pandemic. Wait, you mean somebody had the nefarious intention to keep people able to get food so they could survive?

In "Recommended Reading," a peer-reviewed paper on mask compliance across Europe. "...findings indicate that countries with high levels of mask compliance did not perform better than those with low mask usage."

A single case of Covid is detected in North Korea, and Kim Jung-Un orders a national lockdown. Oh well – civil liberties will just have to be suspended temporarily. Meanwhile, in "Recommended Reading," The Great Debunking continues. A terrific paper by Michael Levitt and colleagues showing that "Excess deaths may be lower than previously calculated."
