Despite headlines that Omicron is invading Beijing, reported new Covid cases in China have fallen to almost nothing. The intense but short-lived national Omicron wave seems to have collapsed -- and not because of lockdowns, because the exact same pattern has been seen in every Omicron wave world-wide, where there were generally no lockdowns.

The Supreme Court crisis must not be getting the desired traction with the gullible public. Now it's all about the new Omicron sub-sub-variant BA.2.12.1. All the same tropes, including our favorite from the New York Times story about it: "There’s no indication yet that causes more severe disease." Ungrammatical to be sure (the sentence has no subject -- an egregious copy-editing error from the Newspaper of Record). But the killer is that word "yet", subconsciously creating the impression that there's risk even when there is no evidence for risk.
