In Recommended Reading: you know the Covid crisis is over when the New York Times runs an editorial called "I'm Tired of Judging Other People's Covid Choices." If you can't do that, what else is there to do?

In Recommended Reading: why, now, two years into the pandemic, are the Asian nations that did the best at controlling the spread of Covid now doing the worst?

Two great headlines in Recommended Reading today: "States Challenge Biden Administration’s Mask Mandate for Public Transportation" and "Biden Administration Will Start Vaccinating Migrants at Border." But only one reaction from us: "What took you so long?"

New cases on a global basis have now more than completely reversed the "bear market rally" from the Omicron BA.2 sub-variant. Another false alarm.

Now that the Omicron variant BA.2 is looking like a dud, the New York Times is cranking up pandemic nostalgia -- "Three Habits My Family Started In the Pandemic That We Want to Keep."  Fear, terror and reading the New York Times every day.

In Recommended Reading, a fascinating poll. How do Americans feel about the social changes wrought by the pandemic and the government response to it? 43% feel their protest rights are less secure; only 9 percent say they're more secure. 42% feel their ability to voice their opinion has diminished; 12% say they're ability to voice their opinion had become more secure. More than one in three feel their religious liberties are less secure; only 10% feel they're more secure. Other than that, everything is fine now.

So much in Recommended Reading today! Omicron BA.2 subvariant is now 71% of global new cases (but only 30% in the US). The Biden administration will no longer reimburse hospitals for uninsured Covid care (look for hospitalization statistics to fall). Jen Psaki tests positive for Covid the second time (she shoulda gotten vaccinated).
