In "Recommended Reading," the Department of Energy's report that Covid likely began in a Chinese lab has real legs. Previously such conclusions have been shoved down the memory hole as conspiracy theories. Now even the New York Times and the Washington Post are taking it seriously and actually reporting on it.

In "Recommended Reading," a credible case that social media has been a more damaging pandemic than Covid among young women.

In "Recommended Reading," a blockbuster that will likely get no further attention or action: "WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Energy Department has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak, according to a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress... The Energy Department made its judgment with 'low confidence,' according to people who have read the classified report... The FBI previously came to the conclusion that the pandemic was likely the result of a lab leak in 2021 with 'moderate confidence' and still holds to this view."

China has ended its Zero-Covid policy, and daily fatalities have fallen to zero. The way to get to zero was to end the policy, apparently.

In "Recommended Reading," the New York Times finally admits that "mask mandates did nothing." Yes, the mandates they themselves insisted on as though they were virtue itself. Elsewhere, polling for the Knight Foundation finds that no one trusts the media. Do you see any connection?

In "Recommended Reading," as the age of Covid draws to a close, the masses seek new titillations and the masters seek new narratives of control. So how about a mysterious metal "sphere" that has "washed up" on "the beach" in Japan?

What a shocker. An advocacy organization called "4 Day Week Global" has released a "study" of 3,000 British businesses that let their employees work 4 days, and pay them for 5. It has nothing to do with Covid stay-at-home stuff -- just a new work-and-pay pattern. Supposedly they love the results, and plan to continue after the study period. Sounds like a Commie conspiracy, and it probably is. That said, for certain businesses, it may well be that past employment patterns are not ideal and that production and productivity, both, could be increased by trying new things (with extra leisure on the side, as a kind of bonus -- which in some cases will be redeployed in new forms of production). Worth keeping an open mind about.

In "Recommended Reading," further proof that nowadays science no longer presents itself in a way that can lead to useful decisions. For months we've been linking to serious papers showing increased heart risk among the vaccinated. Now comes a new paper showing they have less risk (at least among the sub-population of vaccinated who, despite being vaccinated, came down with Covid). Go figure.

In "Recommended Reading," an intriguing question is posed in the headline: "Did Pfizer Fix the Election?" Sounds like a conspiracy theory, to be sure. But nowadays all the big questions do...

In "Recommended Reading," no less an establishment tool than The Lancet admits that natural immunity confers greater protection against Covid than the vaccines. That's not a case against vaccines, but rather a case against mandating them for people who have already suffered a bout of Covid. In other news, we're relieved to learn from CNN that federal authorities are "considering" sending medical experts to the Ohio train wreck. Yes, that seems faintly absurd under the circumstances. But after three years of a federal fiasco on Covid, the good news is that they are actually considering before acting, for a change.
