Covid-2019

In "Recommended Reading" -- throughout the pandemic, we've been told that "peer review" is the gold standard for "studies" and "papers" about Covid. Turns out that it's not. In fact, it amounts to a hoax. And not just in virology. In economics, in psychology -- in everything. And… China has just made another of their new weekly data drops. It's a miracle. Now just 9 deaths per day, down from 4,273 six weeks ago. Just amazing what happens when the protests stop. They must have all been super-spreader events.

After a very rough winter in China and Japan, there is now no country or state we follow where Covid is spreading exponentially.

In "Recommended Reading," a new study confirms that severity of Covid effects increases exponentially with age. The risk of death among the oldest has substantially decreased over time, coinciding with the introduction of vaccines. One could -- should -- conclude that remedial measures are irrelevant for the young, and essential for the old. Sounds like what the Great Barrington Declaration said all along.

Our Meme of the Day, a belated but nevertheless lovely Valentine from Dr. Fauci. Okay, it's not in the best of taste.

In "Recommended Reading," the German health minister who led what was among the western world's harshest and longest lockdowns now says the whole thing was a terrible mistake. Oh well.

In "Recommended Reading," the US has its own zoonotic disease-vector problem. Not bats, but feral hogs. Once again you nailed it, Neal Stephenson.

In "Recommended Reading," we link to a new study from Stanford and the Associated Press documenting the drop of 1.2 million kids in K-12 since just before the pandemic. Where did they go? How are they being educated? Are they being educated? We don't know. Why don't we know?

In "Recommended Reading," just when you thought you'd seen everything in some "peer-reviewed study." Here's one showing that people's tendency to mask up for Covid is really the reflection of their unconscious perception of themselves as good-looking or not. Yep.

In "Recommended Reading," the Norfolk Group -- comprised of highly credentialed doctors, epidemiologists and virologists such as Stanford's Jay Battacharya and Harvard's Martin Kuldorff -- come up with ten difficult but essential questions for a hypothetical commission to investigate the pandemic (like the one assembled to investigate the terrorist attacks of September 2001). Just a few simple questions. How about: "Why did vaccine randomized trials not evaluate mortality...?" Or, "Why was there widespread questioning of infection-acquired immunity by government officials..." Or, "Why was there so much emphasis and trust in complex epidemiological models...?" Inquiring minds want to know. But so far no such commission has been assembled.
