A new feature starts today on page 3 -- the gender, race and age demographics of vaccination. There's a lot of loose talk about angry white men in the southern US who won't get vaccinated. Probably true, but there's something else that's true too: overall, African Americans are far and away the least vaccinated group.

In "Recommended Reading," from our friends on the Wall Street Journal editorial page, "How Science Lost the Public's Trust." That's called "thinking past the sale." It is just assumed that science has indeed lost the public's trust. This is just about "how."

A new feature -- in the text captions of each large state or country chart, we now show (unless unavailable) the share of new cases represented by the Delta variant. It's an illuminating exercise to compare the trajectory of new cases with the respective Delta-share. Do you see a reliable correlation? We don't.

The great question for markets: will the Delta-driven rise in cases lead to new lockdowns? No -- because the balance of sentiment has changed. As always, The New York Times writes the script for political elites, and today, in "Recommended Reading," their headline: "How Nations Are Learning to ‘Let It Go’ and Live With Covid." Confidence-shakers for your Sunday morning, in "Recommended Reading" -- food for thought, at least. An mRNA vaccine expert adduces evidence that the most vaccinated countries are seeing the biggest rise in cases. And a case of Monkeypox (truly disgusting) has showed up in -- gasp! -- Dallas.

The Washington Post, of all people, gets the World Health Organization to correct egregious errors in its report about the geography of the origins of Covid in Wuhan. One expert, an WHO consultant, is quoted asking a question that answers itself through an outrageous pun: "Who made the errors?" He goes on, "Was it China, was it the team, was it WHO itself? There’s no clarity, and this does feed into public distrust of the integrity and rigor of the origins investigation."
