In "Recommended Reading," a perfect object lesson in the deceptive journalistic practice of telling a true story by draping it in false context. The true core of the story is that nobody knows how many Covid infections there are any more thanks to the prevalence of in-home testing, the results of which go unreported. But then there are all the first-person anecdotes about the dread and fear of a dimensionless new wave. The article even states that, tests or no tests, we know the extent of the wave by measuring hospitalizations and fatalities -- which remain low. But no. More heart-breaking anecdotes about people who have nothing better to do than share their fears with reporters from the Washington Post (plural -- it took three to write this masterpiece).
