Be the right amount of alarmed by today's US new case count at 143,000. In early summer, when cases were light, some states went to weekly reporting, and almost all stopped reporting on weekends. So Monday's data -- which we are showing in today's report -- actually represents three days' worth of cases for most states. We do take some steps to smooth away this kind of effect, but it's gotten so pervasive we feel there is only so much we can do without undue distortion.
